The goal was to transform the old, dark area into bright, functional rooms, including a fitness room, laundry room, craft room, and kitchenette, along with an updated bathroom and family room. They even added space for a new pool table. ![This award-winning, spacious basement renovation in Bethesda features a curved couch, small kitchen with barstools, large windows, hardwood floors, a pool table, and a dedicated gym area.](https://smileyrenovations.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Kerry_base_base_stair_6-24-23_078%20(1).jpg?width=2000&height=1333&name=Kerry_base_base_stair_6-24-23_078%20(1).jpg "\"This") #### Light-filled and ready for lounging The design aimed to maximize functionality by creating separate areas for exercising, crafting, and laundry. By replacing the enclosed staircase with a modern, open design, they allowed more natural light to fill the basement, making it feel larger and more inviting. The consistent flooring throughout further enhances this spacious feeling. ![2](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/2.png "2") ![1](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/1.png "1") Black and white basement bath ![Kerry_base_Ba_6-24-23_191](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Kerry_base_Ba_6-24-23_191.jpg) Renovated blue basement laundry ![Kerry_base_laundry_6-24-23_179](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Kerry_base_laundry_6-24-23_179.jpg) #### Dedicated Activity Areas The new fitness room offers a view of the backyard, making workouts enjoyable, while the teenagers now have a dedicated spot for their pool table and music practice. The kitchenette is perfect for grabbing snacks and drinks, with ample storage for seasonal dishware. ![A cozy living room with a curved teal sectional sofa facing an award-winning fireplace and TV. The laundry area is now more appealing, with hidden options for dirty laundry while entertaining. Overall, the basement transformation creates an ideal hangout for the family and their friends.   ## Before & After [See more bath tranformations](https://smileyrenovations.com/project_category/bathrooms?hsLang=en) ## Our award-winning team can transform your home **##### Turn to Smiley Renovations for all-in-one remodeling solutions in Montgomery County and Northwest DC** **[Contact Us](https://smileyrenovations.com/contact-us?hsLang=en)** **[![Smiley Renovations logo](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/smiley-logo-340x100.png)](https://smileyrenovations.com?hsLang=en) ![Smiley logo celebrating 20 years](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/SmileyRenovations_Final_Logo22_1-removebg-preview.png) ##### Contact [![call](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/call.png) (301) 674-7879  ](tel:3016747879) [![mdi_location](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/mdi_location.png) 8555 16th St. Suite 401 Silver Spring, MD 20910](https://maps.app.goo.gl/LyEcMFUmSZmBFUq97) [![la_facebook-f-1](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/la_facebook-f-1.png)](https://www.facebook.com/pages/biz/Smiley-Renovations-LLC-129318567106918/) [![basil_linkedin-solid-1](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/basil_linkedin-solid-1.png)](https://www.linkedin.com/company/smiley-renovations-llc/) [![jam_instagram-1](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/jam_instagram-1.png)](https://www.instagram.com/smileyrenovations/) [![simple-icons_houzz-1](https://smileyrenovations.com/hubfs/Assets_2024/Images/simple-icons_houzz-1.png)](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/design-build-firms/smiley-renovations-llc-pfvwus-pf~1577359648?) ##### Quick Links - [Portfolio](https://smileyrenovations.com/projects-portfolios) - [Awards](https://smileyrenovations.com/awards) - [Terms & Conditions](https://smileyrenovations.com/terms-conditions) - [Legal](https://smileyrenovations.com/legal-page) Copyright © 2026 Smiley Renovations. | Design by [Krishang Technolab](https://www.krishangtechnolab.com/)**
