About Us

Daren Smith founded Smiley Renovations in 1997 after many years of experience in the renovation and construction business. The company is named for an uncle of Daren’s. Daren works very closely with each client identifying challenges and designing solutions to meet their specific needs. Everyone at Smiley Renovations works hard to keep you informed during the entire process. We are all about showing up on time, finishing the job in a timely manner and instilling value for the client. In the end, we like to create great spaces that people enjoy for years to come!

Dawn brings to Smiley’s clients an eye for design honed by a master’s in interior design and two degrees in Art History. She loves developing solutions customized to each homeowner’s needs and desires. As part of the Smiley design-build team, Dawn develops interior layouts and guides clients through selecting all the materials for your renovated spaces. Ultimately her goal is to help design a home you LOVE.

Mike Patterson is a seasoned construction professional with over 35 years in the industry, including nearly 20 years running his own successful remodeling company. He joined the Smiley team as production manager in 2022. A dedicated member of PRO (formerly NARI), since 1997, Mike has held leadership roles such as President and Chair of the Board and has served as an instructor for Certified Remodeler and Certified Lead Carpenter programs. Over the past decade, he has shared his expertise by presenting classes at JLC Live and The Remodelers Show and writing articles for Fine Homebuilding and JLC magazines. Outside of work, Mike enjoys woodworking and exploring back roads on a Russian sidecar motorcycle with his wife, Noelle.

Known for his outstanding communication skills and ability to juggle multiple projects, Marvin is committed to delivering exceptional results. He excels at coordinating with contractors, clients, and vendors, making sure each project runs smoothly from start to finish while maintaining strong, positive relationships.

Outside of the office, he loves spending time with his family and exploring all that Montgomery County and DC have to offer.

Matt has been with Smiley since 2012. As a Project Manager, Matt oversees the construction phase of multiple projects with a focus on making clients happy, keeping to the budget and finishing the project on time. He has over ten years of experience in the repair and remodeling trades. He spent five years as a cabinet maker, finisher and installer.

Kwon joined the Smiley team in March 2021. He is a dedicated Construction Project Coordinator with over 8 years of experience in managing diverse construction initiatives from concept to completion. 

Recognized for his outstanding organizational abilities and sharp attention to detail, Kwon is adept at managing schedules, budgets, and resources to guarantee smooth project execution.

Working with the team since July 2022, Luc creates project estimates and manages the scope and costs in a contract. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with AutoCAD 2019 certification, which he uses to draft plans. In addition to his role as a Project Coordinator, he creates 3D models using SketchUp. These give our clients the opportunity to virtually walk through the proposed design of their renovated home. Luc is very active outside work, hanging out with family and friends, online gaming, hitting the gym, and playing his two favorite sports – volleyball and basketball.

Kathy has been working with Smiley since 2009.  She enjoys working with clients and helping them with the renovation process. She has over 50 years’ experience in sales and service.
In her spare time, she enjoys doing volunteer work with her church and community and spending time with her Grandchildren.

Josh joined the Smiley team in 2001. Having been in the construction industry since high school, he brings experience and expertise in the trades to Smiley. Josh has been involved in many of the awards won by Smiley. His specialty is in Masonry. He is EPA certified.

Francisco has a vast knowledge of cabinetry and extensive construction experience. Francisco successfully completes all jobs on time, on budget, and always maintains the highest level of quality.
